History in the Making at the 2022 Oscars

Celebrating a historical night at the Oscars with CODA’s three wins, and an appearance of our RoseBYANDER LoveSign on the red carpet!
Without a doubt, 2021 was the year of the Deaf, and 2022 is the year of action and advocacy. As we watched this year's Oscars, Deaf representation and allyship reached new heights; Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant, Emilia Jones, and director Sian Heder delivered a film full of authenticity. Its popularity amongst audiences and critics proved that the world was watching in awe and rooting for them through awards season, in ways unmatched in history. Not since Marlee’s historic 1986 Oscar win, a trailblazing victory in which she was the first (and until last night, only) Deaf actor to become the recipient of an Academy Award, have we seen the community recognized for their contributions to Hollywood.
Aside from the HISTORICAL Best Supporting Actor win at the show, win for Best Adapted Screenplay, and win for Best Picture - we all won big.
The first step to human connection is awareness: how we carry ourselves. Our own personal missions, our statements in words, or what we wear. This is how we effectuate change. RoseBYANDER is so proud to have played even a small role in this spectacular show of allyship and Deaf representation, with our LoveSign pendants sharing a message of inclusionary and forward-thinking love to all that watched last night's awards, the powerful statement of "I love you" leading the way and saying so much with just one symbol.

Seeing my small business represented on an international stage has made my life mission to elevate the visibility of the Deaf community realized. We are honored that Troy Kotsur supports our brand and its mission to share the one universal symbol of love that can be owned and delivered by sign language, as he celebrates a personal and historic win in the fight for authentic representation and inclusion. His speech, dedicated to the Deaf community, the CODA community, and the disabled community said it all: “This is our moment.” For the first time ever, together we are bringing the gifts of the Deaf community and culture to a world divided by pandemic and war, sharing love when it is needed most.
